An interactive, virtual museum, this gallery is part of the limited edition of Life Under My Skin, sponsored by Diesel to celebrate the launch of it's latest fragrance. The purpose of this gallery is to tell the many stories behind these mysterious tattoos and to give those with tattoos a visually pleasing and dynamic platform on which to share them. Consisting of tattoo anecdotes and the life experiences of those who bear them, this gallery is evolutive and international. More than just tagged photos, the different portraits that make up ONLY THE BRAVE TATTOO GALLERY are life stories, both original and unique.

To celebrate the launch of the platform, Diesel brought together a number of stars with a shared passion for tattoos. Over a hundred different portraits are already online: VIPs, journalists and models ranging from female rock group The Plasticines to the BMX world champion without forgetting Diesel creative director Renzo Rosso.

ONLY THE BRAVE TATTOO 55s AD CAMPAIGN





The history of rebellion and bravery of the original fragrance ONLY THE BRAVE launched in 2009 and revisited in a new communication campaign featuring two fragrances, the classic and the new one through the concept of “clash”. It’s a story of opposition between two men who with the same values.

The movie has a dynamism that has nothing to envy to the most spectacular action movies and signed by a powerful slogan in the spirit of the fragrance: "Are you ready… To face the future?”

The campaign will be broadcasted on digital platforms. All the brands social networks as well as the brands website, the Diesel Fragrance Factory, will feature the colors of the ad campaign with a beautiful Los Angeles scenery

DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM THE STREETS OF HIS NATIVE LOS ANGELES, MISTER CARTOON BECAME A LEGENDARY CONTEMPORARY TATTOO ARTIST. HE HAS TATTOOED EMINEM, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, BEYONCE AND OTHER FAMOUS STARS.

HOW DID YOU BECOME A TATTOO ARTIST?

In the early nineties I started making big wall frescoes and illustrations for t-shirts, magazines, CD jackets and customized low-riders in Los Angeles. I enjoyed spending time at the Spotlight Tattoo lounge watching the tattoo artists do their work. One day I decided to take the plunge and get a tattoo myself. I gradually
learned the trade's basic techniques from that great personal experience. But it was long and difficult because there's nothing harder and more delicate to work with than skin!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE STYLE?

My style of drawing goes back to traditional black and grey tattoos, the style of the zoot suit days. I also love linked letters and their scrolls because I feel like I’m creating life lines. When doing graffiti art I am known to work in sepia or black and grey, staying true to my roots.

On other hand,when I do a mural on a car; I use colors to paint a fantasy that matches the spirit of the car and the owner of the car.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION? WHAT ARE YOUR INFLUENCES?

Creatively, my inspiration comes from many sources. From travelling the world to my home town LA; from soul songs to classic rock to hard core rap music. Visually, I was inspired by graffiti writers such as Lee and Chaz. Pin stripers, painters, and muralists shaped my palate and sense of color balance. Noticing the body
line on cars and the shapes helped me understand the paint.

Before the internet or cable television, we had to track down our influences through obscure ways like finding books and meeting our heroes face to face.

IT IS SAID THAT TATTOO REFLECTS THE PERSONALITY AND LIFE OF ITS
WEARER: WHAT IS THE STORY OF YOUR OWN TATTOOS?

My tattoos are chapters out of my life, good and bad. Beautiful women adorn my arms like lights on a Christmas tree. Old English letters and script writing, clown masks and cityscapes, it all tells he story of a young kid trying to find out where he fits in the real world.

FRAGRANCE AND TATTOO ARE BOTH “A TRACE” LEFT ON THE SKIN… WHAT ATTRACTED YOU ABOUT THE PERFUME OTB TATTOO AND WHAT DID YOU WANT TO CONVEY THROUGH YOUR CREATION?

Through my creation I wanted to convey that unapologetic swagger of being from the city of angels and living the Los Angeles lifestyle. I want people to connect to my lifestyle. I want people to understand the nostalgic experience of driving a classic car; that head-turning effect you get from something old that you have
made come to life and being a modern historian.

I wore Diesel fragrance before I started this projected, so I already identified as a consumer. Making the bottle reflect my art was easy because I already loved the product.

TATTOO STANDS FOR COURAGE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST STORY ABOUT THIS?

The day you tattoo your hands and neck you are committing to the idea that you have to make something out of nothing. At that point, you have to be a success outside of anybody’s image of what success looks like. You have to make entrepreneurship work. It’s a dedication to a lifestyle. That’s the lifestyle I’m proud of.

TELL ME WHAT'S ON YOUR SKIN AND I'LL TELL YOU WHO YOU ARE…

In March 2010 Diesel Perfumes launched the Diesel Fragrance Factory, an online urban trend laboratory, and devoted part of the site to tattoos in collaboration with Anna Mazas, an author focusing on the topic.

The relationship led to a series of unique portraits, Life Under My Skin, and an art book available in bookshops published by Editions de Conti.

RENZO ROSSO, A MAN WHO HAS CHOSEN TO ILLUSTRATE HIS PERSONALITY AND REMARKABLE LIFE WITH TATTOOS, STARTED
ONLY THE BRAVE. HERE'S A PORTRAIT.

WHO IS HE?

Renzo was born in Padua, Italy in 1955, started working in the textile industry at the age of 20 and created the Diesel brand in 1978. Within 30 years he headed a veritable fashion empire. In 2005 he published his autobiography, Fifty, and got his first tattoo, having his knuckles inked with the initials "R.R."

Renzo, a man of conviction, passion and creativity, seems to paint the portrait of the person that he has always wanted to be and imagined for his favourite brand with his own tattoo collection.

TATTOO PROFILE

MY FIRST TATTOO

Renzo threw himself into the tattoo adventure at the age of 50 by
having his initials, "R.R.", inked on his knuckles, a courageous act motivated by maturity and experience. The letters elegantly sign the hand of a man who has made creation his life story.

"I opted for a conspicuous, unusual place because I wanted something powerful and symbolic."

ONLY THE BRAVE

The designer had his motto, "Only The Brave", tattooed just above his ankle. The phrase is synonymous with success and, above all, evokes the boundless conviction of a fulfilled, self-made man.

"The phrase is part of me. It stands for what I am and have always wanted to be."

MY MOHAWK

Renzo says the Mohawk Indian, the Diesel brand's historic logo, is his incredible personal adventure's most powerful symbol. Translating that motif into a tattoo and putting it on his body was a necessity.

"We are born without any marks on us and I think it's important to leave a trace on the body we are given."
